On Friday, February 23rd, our TMS Community will celebrate Black History Month both during our school day and during an evening Block Party. We will be selling student-designed t-shirts in advance of the event to raise money for Beats Rhymes & Relief and to purchase a book about the history of hip-hop for each grade level.
We need caregiver volunteers to help us provide and serve food, assist with craft stations, and several other items!
We also would love any Divine Nine members to reach out for a special spotlight idea we have for our kickoff Village Meeting on February 9!
Don’t have connections but still want to support? We would love donations to help fund this event; contributions can be made through the TMS Foundation with the comment “BHM Block Party 2024”.
Proceeds from our student-designed t-shirt sales will benefit Beats Rhymes & Relief and help us purchase a book about the history of hip-hop for every grade level. Please include your student’s name and their homeroom teacher’s name at checkout.
**Please Note: These are PRE-orders; shirts will only be available for order through February 9, 2024. Shirts will be distributed the week of February 19, 2024, in time for our Block Party event on Friday, February 23.

The Museum School is hosting a Prospective Educator Open House on February 6th, 2024 at 6:00 pm. This open house will provide educators an opportunity to learn more about The Museum School and vacancies available for the 2024-2025 school year.
This event is open to all educators – teachers, assistants. If you are an educator and would like to learn more about teaching opportunities at The Museum School we encourage you to attend. We will offer an overview of the school, the Museum Model, 2024-2025 vacancies, educator expectations, a school tour, and Q&A with members of school administration.
At a ceremony today in DeKalb County, State School Superintendent Richard Woods awarded the Musuem School’s Third Grade reading team with a Literacy Leader Banner for achievement in
reading. Our third graders scored above 90% on the Milestones Assessment in reading.
The event was held at Avondale Elementary School where nine other DeKalb County schools were also honored. Our staff who supported the third grade in reading last year attended the event, along
with other county officials and local political leaders.
We are very proud of the accomplishments of the 2022-23 third graders and the support of the staff that worked with them. They are (in alphabetical order): Lynnsey Armstrong, Shaniece Bates, Ashley
Beebe, Lillian Galicia, Petra Hunte, Bridget Jones, Olivia Moore, Kilan Pace, Jen Pomfret, Amy Rodriguez, Annie Rosenberg, Wren Searcy, Katie Stenberg, Mike Stewart, Sahar Tejani, and Yolanda Tickles.
Congratulations to the team!

All kids deserve to learn in a safe, supportive and caring environment. The Great Kindness Challenge provides powerful tools that actively engage students, teachers, administrators, families and communities in creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity and respect. Learn more at thegreatkindnesschallenge.com.
During the week of January 22 – 26, 2024, Museum School Students in grades K-5 will take part in the Great Kindness Challenge. This is a time where students are encouraged to demonstrate kindness with their words and actions. Through lessons and morning messages students will learn ways they can show kindness and are encouraged to demonstrate those acts in their daily lives.
We would love your support. Please use the checklist provided to demonstrate random acts of kindness in your home and community. Together we can do our part to spread kindness!
Sincerely,

Museum School parents, students, and teachers may be familiar with Camp Scene Environmental Adventures from their auction donation and their nature-based summer camp and school break camp programs in Decatur since 2010. Now, they are hoping to bring After-School Camp to TMS for students to explore nature and experience the outdoors.
With a minimum number of enrolled students in grades K-5, a camp bus will pick up TMS students at the end of the school day. The 2-day program (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) includes one nature hike field trip and one outdoor-themed interest club at their Weekes Street location. The 3-day program adds an outdoor skill field trip on Fridays, such as geocaching, nature photography, disc golf, indoor rock climbing ($20 fee per Stone Summit trip), and more.
On-site clubs include gardening & chickens, nature art & crafts, nature exploration, eco-sports, nature theater, nature yoga, nature woodworking ($75 semester fee), and eco-engineers (for 3rd grade and up).
Some details:
Hours: Camp pickup at TMS from 3:10-3:25 p.m. Parent pickup by 6 p.m. at camp (227 Weekes Street in Decatur, off East College Avenue).
Cost: $235 per month for two days and $350 per month for three days. A few clubs have additional fees, which will be noted in registration.
If you’re interested, call or text Owner/Director Scott Seitz at 404-502-3196 or email office@campscene. Registration will open with a confirmed number of families — at least 10 who are committed to enroll. Start dates could begin in November. Families who are enrolled and paid also could choose to begin in December or January.
