Money on the Move

First Grade Unit 4 Exhibit Night 2024

Wednesday, May 15th
BLAKE 5:15-5:45 | PANGLE 6:00-6:30 | JOWAISAS 6:45-7:15

Economics caught the attention of first graders this spring. Students explored the difference between wants and needs, goods and services, and also producers and consumers. Additionally, students tackled the costs and benefits of personal decisions to spend, save or donate. Designing their own businesses, they created names, logos and slogans for their new ventures, and in music class, they turned those slogans into jingles.

Student Expeditions:

  • Avondale Estates Walking Tour
  • Floribunda Flower Farm

Ask an Explorer:

  • Are you providing a good or a service?
  • What is the difference between goods and services? What are some examples of each?
  • What do consumers and producers do?
  • What is scarcity?
  • What are some things you would save for?

Travel Journals

Students documented their learning in their travel journal. These contain information, reflections and activities that students did in class during our unit inquiries.

Goods & Services Sort

This interactive exhibit demonstrates the students’ understanding of the difference between goods and services.

Services are something that people do for you and you pay money for it. A good is something that someone makes that you can eat or hold. I’m doing a service where I paint people’s nails.

Jingles

After coming up with a business idea. Each student created their own slogan to advertise for their business. Then they turned it into a jingle in music class. Press the button to listen to each jingle!

Little Entrepreneurs

Students created a storefront display with Mrs. Khan during art with their photo, welcoming you to their business.

I made my bracelets at home out of rubber bands. I chose bracelets because I like to make bracelets with my sister. She is helping me learn harder ways to make bracelets like with flowers.
