First Grade Unit 4 Exhibit Night 2026

Economics caught the attention of first graders this spring. Students explored the difference between wants and needs, goods and services, and also producers and consumers. Additionally, students tackled the costs and benefits of personal decisions to spend, save or donate. Designing their own businesses, they created names, logos and slogans for their new ventures, and in music class, they turned those slogans into jingles.

Goods and Services Sort
This interactive exhibit demonstrates the students’ understanding of the difference between goods and services.
Goods are something that you can hold and a service is something you do for someone else. I am making paper snowflakes which is a good.

Storefronts & Jingles
Each student created their own slogan to advertise their business. With the help of Mrs. Macquarrie in music, they turned it into a jingle in music class. With Mrs. Khan in art, students created their own imagined storefront to welcome you to their business.
Just get it! I thought it was easy to just tell people to come and get the crayons. I chose pop music to go with my jingle to make people feel happy.

Little Entrepreneurs
Our business plans showcase the process and all the pieces in creating our very own businesses! This includes the business name, product/service, slogan, logo and uniform for each producer.
You need to have a good or a service. You need a logo and you need a business name. The name of my business is Nature King and I am making sculptures. That name is because my sculptures are from nature.

Market Place
Students created their own goods or services to sell at our Exhibit Night Market Place! The students learned about what people can do with the money that they earn: spend, save or donate. First graders will donate all of the earnings from our Market Place to the TMS Garden Club.
