Sixth Grade

Are you smarter than a 6th grader? Come test your knowledge at our game night. Students used information they learned throughout the year to make a board games about Astronomy, Meteorology, Geology, Rates, Ratios, Fractions, Geometry, Latin America, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Test your knowledge with our board games in 6th grade classrooms!

Students created board games based on The Outsiders or any other book they’ve read and enjoyed this school year. They used their knowledge of plot, characterization, and conflict, as well as their creativity and artistic ability, to design a game, and practiced their expository skills to write the rules.

Students studied statistics in class. They practiced mean, median, mode, range, converting decimals to percentages, and graphing data. They got to see this at work on our Expedition to our own Atlanta Gladiators hockey team! Come try your statistical skills and hockey skills at Exhibit Night.

On display, 6th-grade social studies students have 3 artifacts from mini-projects completed throughout quarter 4. There are Australian travel brochures showcasing geography, climate, natural resources, and more. Also on display are students’ pieces of Aboriginal-style art.Finally, students worked in groups to create cumulative social studies board games about the world studies topics we covered this year! In Art, students learned about Fiber Arts – a category of Art that uses fibers (natural or synthetic) like yarn, thread, and fabric as the primary medium. We researched images and discussed how to recreate colors and textures using wool fibers. Finally, the students learned the basics of needle felting to create 2D and 3D representations of their favorite part of our Universe and its Stars!

In Art, students learned about the 19th-century camera-less photographic printing process, Cyanotypes, which produce distinctive, vibrant Prussian blue and white images. Students planned out their art piece by using textures and shapes to represent a character or a scene from The Outsiders. Cyanotypes are created by treating paper with light-sensitive iron salts. We then exposed our art to the sun to create an image. One of the greatest advantages of Cyanotypes for artists is being able to produce them in the field!

This exhibit features projects created by students in the Robotics exploratory over the course of the school year. From Lego Robotics and Sumo Robots to Scratch programming and drone technology, these works demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and applied problem-solving in STEM.
