The Museum School of Avondale Estates held a bridging ceremony on May 26 to celebrate the first eighth grade class that will be moving on to high school. The event is a significant milestone for the public charter school, which opened its doors to students in 2010.
Forty-three students received their certificates officially marking the end of their academic experience at the school during the ceremony entitled “Our Last Night at the Museum School.” Held in the TMS Cafetoríum, the ceremony included students sharing their favorite memories, a legacy gift presentation from the graduates to the school, and a special recognition of the school’s Founders Club.
Along with Museum School’s Board of Directors Chair Andy Huff, founding Board Chair Sasha Webb addressed the graduates and the approximate 200 attendees. Webb urged the students to discover their passions and “dive in,” just as local parents and a supporting community did in creating the school.
Principal Kelbaugh also thanked the students and reminisced on the group’s special connection to the school. “They were the first to do everything here: The first to construct Exhibit Night displays, the first to perform musical concerts, the first to explore and discover, and ace statewide testing. In both their academic achievements and their behavior, they leave behind a wonderful example for younger Explorers.”
