Surprise Award Recognizes Excellence in Teachers, School Leaders
Decatur, Ga Aug. 27. 2015
Two Museum School of Avondale Estates educators received top honors Thursday from Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education. Principal Katherine Kelbaugh and secondgrade teacher Lillian Galicia were surprised with the awards during a schoolwide assembly today.
“The awards are well-deserved personal recognition for Ms. Galicia and Principal Kelbaugh, who bring incredible dedication and passion to our school each and every day,” notes Andy Huff, chair of The Museum School’s Board of Directors. “The awards are just one more reminder of our school’s incredible community of passionate, professional and dedicated educators.”
With the aim of retaining excellent teachers and school leaders and inspiring other educators, the awards recognize excellence in raising student achievement, enhancing student self esteem and collaborating with multiple stakeholders for the benefit of students. Award winners receive funds for school projects, professional development and personal stipend.
The Museum School is honored to be the only school in the Atlanta metro area with two award winners in 2015 and the only school with three winners overall; Assistant Principal Mike Stewart received this award previously.
