Sign-up Opens Tuesday, August 12!
4th and 5th graders are invited to join the Kilometer Kids running club this fall, sponsored by the Atlanta Track Club. The free program introduces kids to running while helping them set and work toward personal goals.
This year, we’ll meet on Mondays, from September 8 through November 17. We’ll meet after school at 3:05 PM and walk together to Lake Avondale. There, students will set individual lap goals and run at their own pace around the lake. We focus on celebrating effort, progress, and the joy of movement.
Pick-up is at Lake Avondale at 3:45 PM or back at school at 4:00 PM.
Sign-ups open August 12. First-come, first-served. SIGN UP LINK HERE

Communication:
We will be using League App for all Kilometer Kids communication. Once you register with The Atlanta Track Club, you will get a link to download the App. Send us a message in League Apps introducing yourself and your child and we will create the roster online then. This will be a requirement for your child to be added to the team. League App will have the practice schedule, child check in/out log and be the source of additional updates. We will not be using an email account to communicate.
Help Needed:
We are asking each family to volunteer in some capacity to help keep the program running.
Practice will be held at Avondale Lake (in Avondale Estates). In order to supervise the kids in this public space, we need 2 adults to volunteer with us at every practice. We have created a Sign Up Genius and ask that if your child will be participating that you sign up for at least one slot. This volunteer position will be from 3:15-3:45pm and you will be assigned to a spot around the lake to provide supervision. There will be no other “coaching” responsibilities beyond that. If we do not have enough people signed up to provide sufficient supervision, we will have to cancel practice. If you are unable to volunteer in person, we also need volunteers to bring drinks for the kids to enjoy after practice. Drinks are not required for practice, but are definitely a highlight for the kids, so please participate if you can.
About Kilometer Kids
Kilometer Kids is Atlanta Track Club’s oldest and largest youth running program. The FREE, game-based curriculum is designed to teach kids in grades K-5 about goal setting, healthy habits, respect, and community building, all by exposing them to the sport of running. Over the course of the 10-week season, the goal for every Kilometer Kid is to run 13.1 or 26.2 miles (depending on how many practices they attend each week). There is no fee to participate, and the program is for all elementary students regardless of running ability or experience. Being a Kilometer Kid is not about running the fastest or winning the race. Instead, it’s all about working hard, being kind, and having fun while becoming more physically active, being a part of a team, and finding joy in the process.
